Student of the Term Club

Apparently, if you live on Park Terrace SW and attend Memorial Middle School; CHANCES ARE, you are ALSO a STUDENT OF THE TERM!!!

Reed has been selected as one of sixth grade Students of the term. His friends P and B from down the street (or is it up the street, who can really tell) are two of the seventh grade Students of the term. To read their blog posts go HERE for Brady and HERE for Preston (hopefully, I have my twins straight.)

We are proud of the boys of Park Terrace, but ESPECIALLY proud of Reed!

Apparently, he behaves better at school than he does at home :)

Like the Fugitive...Only different

If you remember the movie "The Fugitive" Dr. Richard Kimball is on the lamb while trying to prove that his wife was murdered by a one-armed man....

Well, as you know Steve has been training for a triathlon....he and Jaimy have been getting up at 5:00 a.m. to swim every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. At first, the swimming was REALLY hard for Steve...and then he started to feel a little stronger. After Monday's swim, Steve came home feeling a little discouraged...he'd been passed in the pool by a one-legged man.

His new goal for his triathlon...not to come in DEAD LAST! :)

Momism of the Day
You CAN'T be the leader if you don't know
where you're going!
Steve making a YUMMY breakfast! He also made dinner.
The kids detailed my mini-van yesterday, I also got a little trip up to my favorite store...BCBG in Portland (and some CUTE dresses) from Steve. I'm a VERY happy mom :)
They had to do anything I want today, right? So it's the perfect time for a new picture.

Go Climb a Tree!

This is what goes on at the father son camp out...
Joel and Reed are at the top of "the tree"...about 8 stories up. The boys REALLY look forward to the father/son camp out every year and I guess I can see why. Oh, the things that go on when mothers aren't around to be the voice of makes me shudder :)

Here is what it looks like from the top of the tree...the "ant" at top center is Steve.

Vader Mask the Sequel

The three older kids are part of a childhood activity study at Oregon State University in the Human Assessment Lab. This is the second year of the study and they really had a good time last year. They wear accelerometers, heart rate monitors, and "the Darth Vader mask" to measure their breathing. As they are being measured, they do activities that range from playing video games, to running and playing basketball. When I signed them up for the study, I thought that being part of a real college study would be a good experience. But as it turns out, they get paid too. I do think they enjoy the actual study itself, and get a kick out of the grad students they interact with, but they REALLY like the hundred bucks they get when it's all over. Paul, Reed and Megan getting Reed ready for testing

Integral Man!

Every year the AP Calculus class at the high school designs a t-shirt...this is the shirt for this year. AND I'm proud to say that Kraig designed the slogan...based on the old anti-drug TV commercials.
When he told me about it yesterday, he started off with "well mom, you're not going to get it, but it's kinda funny." He's right, I don't get it....but I still think it's awesome.

Where the Wild Things Are

The night that Ben wore his Wolf/Koala suit and made mischief of one kind...... ...and another! And when he came to a place where the wild things are, they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws!!!...and they were frightened and called him the most wild thing of all and made him king of all the wild things. "AND NOW," he cried "LET THE WILD RUMPUS START!"

(we add this next part to the book when we read... AND it's our favorite part) RUMPUS, RUMPUS, RUMPUS! RUMPUS, RUMPUS, RUMPUS!!!

This is the place where Ben, our little wild thing is loved best of all!
The movie is coming out on October 16...check the trailer HERE
It looks like it will be awesome and the Farrars will be first in line...see you there!

Preschool Sharing Day....

This is what Ben took for "Sharing Day" is his own Lego creation. He packed it carefully in a basket so it wouldn't get ruined in transport before he showed it to his friends. The dude in the front is the "good guy," and the Lego man in the back is the "bad guy."

Ben likes Bad Guys the best. :)

Sharing the LOVE!

My friend Natalie is now the proud mother of Guido's offspring. I had a hard time trying to figure out how to share my sourdough starter, I googled it and couldn't really find anything. So a week or so ago I asked my friend, Kevin, to confirm what I already thought. This is how you do it...

  • I take a cup from my starter and give it to a friend
  • When she (or he) gets it home... she "feeds" it with one cup of water and one cup of flour
  • I feed my own starter and...

I wonder what Natalie will name her sourdough starter?...
